Marmoo’s Food for Thought

Sobremesa

My favourite Spanish word, which translates literally to "over the table". Culturally, it refers to the time spent lingering at the dining table after a meal has ended relaxing, digesting, and engaging in lively conversation with family or friends.

Why It Matters

In today's busy world, eating together has become a rarity, yet it remains one of the simplest ways to nurture both body and mind. Children don't just learn what to eat; they learn how to eat by watching those around them.

So switch the TV off, put the phones on silent, slow down, pause and grab a chair. Sitting together, sharing meals, encourages conversation, curiosity and confidence around food. It allows babies and toddlers to explore new flavours and textures without pressure, while creating memories that often last a lifetime.

"Trees, Nana, I want more trees!" (a.k.a. broccoli lol!), a memory that always brings joy to my heart.

A shared meal isn't simply about nutrition. It's about belonging, connection and building healthy habits that can shape future generations.

Every meal is an opportunity. An opportunity to nourish the body, strengthen the mind and remind those around the table that food is one of the most beautiful ways of bringing us together, and that sometimes the best ingredient is simply showing up for each other and taking a chair at the table.
